As a Middle Eastern Syrian Jew, my community profoundly shapes my perspective and values, grounding me in a rich heritage. Residing in the diverse tapestry of NYC, I embrace my cultural roots as a first-generation American rather than assimilating to conform. Recognizing the intersection of my past and present is pivotal in crafting my own unique identity.
Inspired by my heritage, the chandelier signifies the foundational roots that shape us. Inscriptions in Arabic and Hebrew, teachings passed down from my Syrian ancestors, conveys a timeless truth: "A people with no past have no future."
Through this project, I was able to I deepened my cultural understanding, unearthed facets of my identity, and connected with family narratives.
